Join us for winter PRACTICE, a weekly online gathering throughout the month of January designed to help you establish a new creative practice or deepen an existing one.
We will work together and help you identify your sources of inspiration, face your fears and embrace vulnerability in your work, and create rituals and routines to see you through the rest of the winter and beyond. Each 90-minute class will include a meditation and exercise on that week’s theme, followed by twenty minutes of quiet time to immerse yourself in your work and ending with reflection and discussion.
WHO IS PRACTICE FOR?
It is not just for practicing artists and it’s not just for burgeoning artists. It’s for everyone. It’s for writers, cooks, painters, sculptors, journalers, thinkers, curators, teachers… you name it. Anyone who wishes they had more time for creativity—to think, make, or just be. If you have a project or passion to work on, PRACTICE can help build a creative habit.
WHO TEACHES PRACTICE?
Carissa Potter Carlson is an artist and the founder of People I’ve Loved.
Amanda Krampf is a gallery director and curator who has helped shape the careers of some of the most influential artists working today.
And special guest artist friends!
WHAT ARE THE ZOOM SESSIONS LIKE?
They are a totally non-intimidating group chat format. Carissa and Amanda lead the discussion. You can chat to the group if you want, but there’s no pressure. You can choose to turn your video off for the quiet work time, or at any point. Our goal is to create a cozy, intimate space for creative growth.
WHY IS THIS BETTER THAN WORKING ALONE?
It’s hard to stay accountable to yourself. If you work on something for just 20 minutes a day, you’ll start to see progress. But there are a million other things vying for your time and attention… kids! partners! work-for-money! PRACTICE is a commitment to showing up for yourself. The exercises and meditation will also give you tools for building a lifelong creative habit.
